Nicaragua Tourism Works to Expand Tour Programs

The Nicaragua Tourism Board (INTUR) is making progress in building the country’s young tourism industry, promoting the country as a new Central American destination that offers an authentic experience of culture, nature and adventure highlighted by the natural warmth of the people.

Pre-Hispanic artifacts, colonial architecture and vibrant folkloric tradition are set against a backdrop of extraordinary natural beauty, including volcanoes, beaches, pristine rainforest and enormous biodiversity.

Nicaragua is becoming more accessible as more tour operators offer packages to the American market, including “A Journey into the Heart of Greenness,” an eight-day private expedition down the San Juan River through dense tropical rain forest from Central America’s grandest lake to the Caribbean Sea.

“Nicaragua’s Sleeping Beauties” enables clients to experience highlights of Nicaragua’s history, colonial architecture and nature in a six-day tour that combines Managua, Granada, and Leon with soft adventure trips to the cloud forests of the Mombacho Volcano in Granada and the active volcanoes of the Masaya Volcano National Park.

“Nicaragua History, Culture & Nature” provides a Nicaraguan historian and naturalist to accompany travelers on a seven-night, eight-day tour of colonial and natural gems. Highlights include a boat exploration of Lake Nicaragua (the largest freshwater lake in Central America), a tour of the colonial city of Granada and an expedition to the pristine La Flor Wildlife Refuge to witness massive turtle arrivals.

“Nicaragua Trekking Tour” is Soltours’ comprehensive 12-night/13-day tour of the country’s diverse topography from a variety of angles. The tour ranges from the northern mountainous region (which includes visits to authentic farm lands and nature reserves) to the beaches of Poneloya (on the Pacific coast) and climbs the country’s Pacific Rim volcanoes.

In addition to its new tour offerings, the Nicaragua Tourism Board will be launching the Nicaragua Coffee Route to provide tourists with the opportunity to experience the livelihood, traditions and culture of the region from the standpoint of one of the country’s leading exports.
